Laurence Holden is best known for his mixed-media paintings, which explore the tension between the rough tactile materials of life and nature. In 1998 the Gwinnet Fine Arts Center in Duluth, Georgia, held a retrospective of these works titled "In the Garden of the Golden Sections 1984-1998".
The natural forces of creation/destruction are a central inspiration for Holden's work, and his paintings are marked by a finely tuned balance between spontaneity and control.
