| Born in Ohio on Dec. 20, 1841. Ewing was raised in Maryland and studied art in Washington, DC. After serving in the Civil War, he worked in Washington and Chicago before moving to Los Angeles in 1886. He was active in Los Angeles during the 1890s; however, the year 1900 was spent in San Francisco. By 1905 he had a home in Pasadena where he remained until his death on Jan. 12, 1928.
