| Tershui Aoki was born in Japan in 1854. Aoki moved to San Francisco in 1885 and was active there until 1901. He painted portraits and murals in the homes of prominent people and became very successful. His works were handled locally by George T. Marsh & Company, the first Oriental art dealer in the U.S. and builder of San Francisco’s Japanese Tea Garden. Aoki then moved south to Pasadena into a studio in the Hotel Green where he was active until 1910. He died in San Diego, CA on April 26, 1912.
