Jennie S. Churchill Kahler was born in Maryland on February 21, 1834.  Jennie was the wife of Samuel J. Kahler.  After moving to southern California from Porter, Indiana in 1884, the couple had an orange grove in San Fernando. In her leisure, Mrs. Kahler painted landscapes, floral still lifes, missions, and 250 watercolors of California wild flowers.  She died in San Fernando on June 30, 1916.
