This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following information was submitted in June of  2006 by his grandson Keith H. Karpé:

Karl (Ki) Karpé was my grandfather. You have him working for 50 years at Hughes Aircraft, and that may or may not be accurate.  I thought it was more like 30 or 40.  He worked at Walt Disney Productions in Burbank, CA prior to his tenure with Hughes.  He was a background animator and worked on such landmark animated films as  Pinocchio, Snow White, and Steam Boat Willy.  He also worked on Fantasia and a host of others.  He also drew the Mickey Mouse comic strips in the early years of Disney.

My late father, Karli (Karl) Karpé, worked at Disney Productions for 39 years, although he served in a managememt role.  My late older brother, Jefferey Karpé worked for Disney's secretive ETLAW or, as it was later known, Imagineering unit, where he was on the team building the first set of U.S. talking and moving presidents that revolutionized robotics and coined the term audio-animatronics.  Our last name has an accent mark over the "e", i.e. Karpé and is pronounced car-pay.
