| Born in Berkeley, CA on March 10, 1911. "Lez" Haas studied at San Francisco State College, the Hans Hofmann School of Art, and earned his M.A. degree at UC Berkeley. In the 1940s he moved to Tucson and taught at the University of Arizona until 1976. Upon retirement, he moved to Santa Fe, NM and died there on July 31, 2001.
