| Born in San Francisco, CA on Aug. 20, 1890, the son of artist Mary Rollins. During 1909-12 Rollins studied at the San Francisco Institute of Art. After graduating from UC Berkeley in 1923, he took graduate courses at Harvard University and then joined the staff at Harvard’s Fogg Art Museum. He returned in 1930 and for three years was director of the CPLH and De Young Museum until succeeded by Walter Heil. Rollins then was an art appraiser until a fatal heart attack in Oakland, CA on June 28, 1970.
