| Born in Racine, WI on Oct. 2, 1857. Clara Lyon was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin. She married Jay O. Hayes in 1885 and two years later moved to California. Settling in Edenvale in Santa Clara County, she was active in civic organizations while her husband was the publisher of the San Jose Mercury. She had studied art in Europe and continued in San Francisco with Wm Keith for several years. As well as an artist, she was also a writer of biographical books (showing 500 of 745 characters). |
