| Born in Bavaria in 1833. By 1876 Peterson had settled in San Francisco. Working in oil and watercolor, he painted frescoes as well as floral still lifes and scenes of the San Francisco Bay area. Having lost many of his paintings in the earthquake, he died there on June 14, 1906.
