| Born in Saratoga, NY. Active in San Francisco in 1852-58, Lapham sketched landscapes for Britton & Rey and other lithographers. He owned a hotel and 160 acres of Calaveras Big Trees (Calif. State Park) with his brother William. In 1853 William bought his brother's share of the acreage for $800. Joseph was active in New Orleans in 1859-60 as a landscape artist for the lithography trade.
