| Born in Auburn, CA on July 4, 1869. By 1884 Lyon was a resident of San Francisco and a pupil of Virgil Williams at the School of Design. Before joining the staff of the Chronicle in the 1890s, he had been an illustrator for Overland Monthly. He was active in San Francisco until shortly before his death in Santa Rosa, CA on March 22, 1938.
