| Born in New Jersey in 1826. Dyer was a daguerreotypist in Philadelphia in 1854. The following year he moved to California and had a photo gallery in Nevada City where he made daguerreotypes for the miners who sent them to their loved ones in the East. After establishing a studio in San Francisco in 1857, he worked there until 1881. Moving across the bay, he was active in Oakland and Alameda until 1898. His track is then lost.
