Matthew D. Madsen (1911-1996)
He was born in Logan, Utah on Jan. 13, 1911 and died on Oct. 10, 1996. He studied art at Brigham Young University. Madsen supported his family by painting homes and business signs but eventually opened his own art studio in Murrary, Utah. He was commissioned to paint large murals depicting western life within various public buildings in the state of Utah. As he became somewhat known, he was able to let the house painting go, relying more on the sale of his landscapes to support his wife and four daughters.
