This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Graduate of Ellsworth High School.  Earned a BFA at Emporia State Univ. in 1956 and a
master’s degree in art education from Fort Hays State Univ. in 1966.  Belton taught
junior high school, designed greeting cards for Hallmark Cards and served as a jewelry
apprentice.  Belton has received national acclaim for her work in continuing the Czech art
of Kraslice, beautifully hand-decorated eggs created by waxing, dyeing and blowing
chicken or goose eggs.  Taught for Wilson public schools until retiring in 1998.  Moved to
Midland, MI in 2001.

Awards: National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, 1988; Master Folk Artist, Kansas State Historical Society; Kansas Governor’s Artist Award, 1992.
