This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Robert Ebendorf earned a BFA from the University of Kansas in 1960, and an MFA in 1963 studying with Carlyle Smith and Robert Montgomery.   He received a Fulbright Scholarship and studied at the State School of Applied Arts and Crafts in Oslo, Norway.

Ebendorf taught at Stetson University in Deland, Florida for two years before returning to Norway in 1965 on a Tiffany Foundation Grant where he worked at Norway Silver Designs in Fredikstad.  He taught at the State University of New York at New Paltz from 1970-89.  There he met the innovative jeweler Claus Bury, whose use of unconventional materials sparked excitement in Ebendorf.

Ebendorf taught at the University of Georgia, the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and the Penland School of Crafts before moving to East Carolina University in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1997 as a visiting lecturer and being awarded the Carol Grotnes Belk Distinguished Professorship for East Carolina Univeristy in 1999.

Widely known for using unusual materials that range from crab claws to Formica ColorCore along with gold, silver and bronze, Ebendorf's work defies categorization.  Miniature chairs and sterling tea infusers join brooches, bracelets, necklaces and rings in demonstrate the wide range of Ebendorf's craft.
