This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Cortland, NY on Oct. 6,1906.  By age nine Gray was earning his way as an artist.  After graduating from Stockton (CA) High School, he studied mural and scenic art at the Lopez studio in Oakland.  He later was art director for an advertising agency with offices in Stockton and Sacramento.  While in this capacity, he was founder and first president of the San Joaquin Art League.  After a few years in Stockton, he settled in Santa Cruz where he was elected first president of the Santa Cruz Art League.  He painted murals on Treasure Island at the GGIE.  During WWII he served in the Navy in camouflage and as a muralist for officer’s clubs.  Upon discharge, he returned to Santa Cruz where he remained until his demise on Oct. 16, 1986.  Two local parks are of his design, Harvey West Park and San Lorenzo Valley Park.

Exh:  Oakland Art Gallery, 1930s.  Mural:  Twin Lakes Baptist Church (Santa Cruz)
