John Martin earned a BFA degree from the University of Kansas in 1959.  He has done extensive work such as illustrations and murals for the Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs, University of Kansas, Milwaukee Brewers, University of Michigan, the National Basketball Association, National Football League,and major league baseball.

Martin also developed the original trademark for World of Fun amusement park in Kansas City and does non-sport portraits and murals. In 2008, Martin added the 2008 NCAA National Championship to the ongoing mural of

He was born in Ottawa, Kansas and graduated from the University of Kansas School of Fine Arts.  He began his career as a graphic designer and illustrator and then became an advertising art director.  However, beginning 1986, he devoted himself primarily to portraiture and has had over 900 commissions from persons in sports, business, academia, medicine and government.
