This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Mrs. Elsie Reasoner Ralph (Mrs. Lester Ralph) was born on April 25, 1878 in Osborne County, Kansas.  Ralph joined her father working in Utah for the Ogden Journal newspaper.  In June 1898 she took a leave of absence from her position as publicity manager of the Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition in Omaha to serve as a war correspondent representing the Associated Press during the Spanish-American War.  She was the first female war
correspondent in U.S. history. She also worked for McClure’s Syndicate in Cuba and later represented the Associate Press as a special European correspondent.  She married Lester Ralph, an illustrator, in 1904 and gave up literary work.  She served as a model for her many of husband’s drawings.  In 1910, Ralph moved to London where she open a studio and began sculpting.

Exhibitions: Royal Academy, 1910.
