| | Richard A. Short was born around 1936. He had no formal art training when he quit his job supervising construction projects for a Lawrence company in 1976. He took classes from Harry Fredman, a noted illustrator in Kansas City, and then established a career painting historical views of familiar landmarks. He used photographs and drawings and his work often incorporates Lawrence, Kansas City or Topeka landmarks. | Source:
