Biography from Jeff Jeremias Fine Arts:
Glade Kennedy was a prominent Denver artist and illustrator who's depictions of wildlife earned him the sobriquet, "The Audubon of the West".

Born in Blockton Iowa in 1893, he moved with his family to Denver in 1910.  Soon after graduation from the city's North High School in 1913, he enrolled at the Fine Arts Academy of Denver where he studied with Abigail Holman and Albert Olson. From his work at the school (where he also exhibited), Kennedy was awarded in 1915-1916, a scholarship to New York's Art Students League. Desiring to stay in Denver however, he declined the appointment.  He continued his studies at the Pennsylvania School of Fine Arts, Denver Atelier with Henry McCarter and George William Eggers, the University of Denver School of Fine Arts with John Edward Thompson and Charles Ramus and at the Denver Students School of Art with Henry Read.

Glade Kennedy exhibited primarily during the 1940's featuring wildlife paintings. The University of Denver provided a venue in August of 1944 with a group show which included such noted artists as John Edward Thompson, Vance Kirkland, James Boyle, Josef Bakos, Dong Kingman, Louise Ronnebeck, Vincent Campenella, Muriel Sibell Wolle, Otis Dozier, Paul Parker and Frank Vavra.  Later in the same year, the University further awarded the artist with a solo show, which was held on the campus at the Mary Reed Library in November and December. Denver's Denham Theatre highlighted his work in October of 1946 as did the Gilpin County Arts Association in Central City in 1960. Additional shows around the country included exhibitions in California at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art from 1944 to 1946 as well as the Edwin Bryant Crocker Gallery in Sacramento in 1946.

As an illustrator, Kennedy was commissioned over time to create designs for the United States Post Office in Denver.  His first was for a service flag in 1917 during World War I.  Later on he designed the masthead for the USPS publication, The Mile Hi Mail Bag, as well as co-creating an illuminated Air Mail map which was on display at the downtown Denver postal facility.

Kennedy also did work for the Denver Post newspaper in the 1950's where he executed wildlife and wildfowl illustrations for that publication's "Fishing Trails" column and for the "Roving Fisherman's" promotion as well as providing reproductions of his paintings for their popular Empire magazine.

During his career, Kennedy was active in several professional organizations in Denver including the Denver Artists Guild, the Beaux Arts Guild and the Businessmen's Art Club.

Works by Glade Kennedy are in the permanent collection of the Denver Public Library.
