This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in San Francisco February 1884, Louis Pedler changed the spelling of his last name to Louis Carl Pedlar ca. 1905 when he arrived in New York City from San Francisco. His newspaper career was short-lived, and he got into advertising working for Calkins & Holden.  He then started his own firm with Tom Ryan in the 1920's, Pedlar & Ryan on 250 Park Ave, NY, NY.  He founded the NYAD - New York Art Directors Club which is still flourishing and was its first president.

Lou Pedlar joined the ORC or army reserve in NY around 1932 and started as a Major. He left NY for Washington DC Sept 1942 and went active in the army working for the VA during WW II.  But he continued his favorite pastime of painting in the DC Maryland area until his death in 1953.

He died February 1953 in Maryland a few days before his 69th birthday.

Information provided by King F. Pedlar, the artist's grandson.
