| Verna Mary Hoxie was born in Michigan on Nov. 17, 1902. By the 1920s Hoxie had settled in Los Angeles and was a pupil at Otis Art Institute. She later did notable work in wood carving while teaching in the public schools. A spinster, she died there on July 7, 1979.
