| Herbert Arthur Chapman was born in England on Dec. 9, 1889. Chapman settled in Los Angeles in 1923. During the 1930s he taught there at Frank Wiggins School. He then for 20 years was a curator at LACMA. Upon retirement in 1960 he moved to Santa Barbara, CA where he remained until his death on April 22, 1972.
