This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Lucille Rusk MacLean was born in Tempe, AZ on Oct. 12, 1905.  Lou MacLean was an infant when she moved to San Francisco with her family.  (Her father was an industrial engineer and one of the builders of the Ferry Bldg).  After graduating from Temple University, she studied at the CSFA in 1930.  At that school she met artist George Post whom she married, but the marriage lasted only three years.  She then wed Kenneth Austin in 1940 and worked under the name Lucille Austin for 40 years.  Influenced by Klee and Kandinsky, her work developed from simple pastels and watercolors to elaborate pen and ink drawings over watercolor washes.  The artist died in San Francisco on July 23, 1986.
