This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Thomas W. Solomon (1915-1988)

A Twentieth Century American Artist who has garnered increasing attention in recent years.  Solomon enjoyed an illustrious career that spanned multiple states and multiple railroads, including the Florida East Coast Railroad and the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad.  He is primarily known as a railroad draftsman and photographer who captured many key events of multiple decades of rail travel in America.  A large group of his photographs can be found within the “Tom Solomon Photograph Collection which has been archived at the Archives of Wiregrass History and Culture at Troy University in Dolthan, Alabama.  Solomon often used his photographic works as inspiration for his original oil paintings on canvas, which appeared in railroading magazine articles and advertisements of many eras.  Some of his works still appear on railroading memorabilia items for sale at popular online venues. His canvases are typically rendered in oil, and boast strong compositions with striking color that hearken back to the Art Deco aesthetic.

In a 1977 issue of Railroad Magazine,  Freeman Henry Hubbard wrote a feature article entitled, “Thomas W. Solomon, Interesting Railfan”.  The modern day rail market contains a variety of items which bear reproduced images of his original paintings, such as hats, mugs, posters, etc.  Although many of his original works are "missing in action", Thomas W. Solomon,  is certainly “on the radar” of contemporary railroad historians and fanatics.
