| | Emma Josephine Cross was born in California in 1886. While in San Francisco in 1904-05, Cross studied at the Mark Hopkins Art Institute. In 1918 she was admitted to Patton State Hospital in San Diego for a mental disorder and died there on Jan. 23, 1935. | Source:
