A painter and teacher, Clarence Rosenkrans was born in Hammondsport, New York in March, 1871.  In responding to a genealogical inquiry in 1899 he wrote: “Most of my (art) instruction was at the Artist-Artisans Institute*, New York, under John Ward Stinson and various private teachers. [Note: An industrial art college begun in 1888, its instructors included Walter Shirlaw, Charles C. Curran, F. Wellington Ruckstuhl and George Wharton Edwards.  The school was organized by John War (showing 500 of 3993 characters).
