Biography from Elliott Fouts Gallery:
| Being fascinated with the arts since a young age, Chris Stott followed his instincts and completed his education in art and art history, focusing on both photography and painting. In 2003 he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts with high honors and distinguished exhibition from the University of Saskatchewan in Canada and immediately set upon a dedicated and prolific studio practice.
Stott's work can almost be considered object portraiture because of situating his subjects in neutral tones and emphasizing the light across the subjects which include things like vintage books, chairs, clocks and luggage, creating a still moment in time and space. His paintings have simple yet graphical and bold compositions that emphasize the basic shapes of the objects, heightening them to almost iconic symbols open to interpretation by the viewer.
Taking his cues from various eras of painting including the interiors of Jan Vermeer (1628-1691), the still life of Jean Chardin (1699-1799) to the realism of Wayne Thiebaud, Chris Stott is determined to continue studying his subjects, perfecting his technique and enjoying every minute that passes.
He resides in a small but beautiful city virtually hidden in the vast plains of the Canadian prairies. He works in an in-house studio with his wife and two young children.
