Biography from Stewart Galleries, Inc.:
Please note: Artists not classified as American in our database may have limited biographical data compared to the extensive information about American artists.

Born in Guaymas Sonora Mexico, Ernesto Acosta had interest in painting from childhood, and it would lead him to formal studies at the Academy of San Carlos, Mexico City. From 1964 to 1970, he continued studying in Rome where he met and briefly studied with Balthasar Balthus before painting in Paris and Vienna.
Ernesto's time in Mexico was spent between Ensenada and Puerto Vallarta. In January 2000 in Puerto Vallarta, he opened Museo Ernesto Munoz Acosta, dedicated to a selection of his lifetime works.

Ernesto donated ninety-four of these works in 2007 to Estatal de las Artes Ensenada (CEARTE).  In 2011, an exposition was held of these works, titled "El Vuelo de mi Hermando" (Flight of my Brother). A biographical book and DVD was released at the same time.
Three of his works are in the permanent collection of the San Antonio Museum of Art.
