Biography from Mid-America Fine Arts:
Worked in: California, Illinois, Texas, Idaho

Henry T Hopkins (14 August 1928 - 27 September 2009) began creating art when he was about six years old in Idaho and continued while working on and then receiving his master's degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1955.  At this point, it is unclear when he stopped making art, but he started again in 1991 when he was elected as the chair to the art department of the University of California (see below).

He worked toward his doctorate at UCLA and taught art history at UCLA Extension from 1959 to 1968.

He then became director of the Fort Worth Art Center Museum (1968–1973).  In 1974 he moved to San Francisco where he took over the directorship of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (1974–1986).

In 1991 he was made Chair of the Art department of the University of California, Los Angeles.  He was instrumental in the negotiations that gave UCLA management responsibility over the Armand Hammer Museum of Art and was the museum's director from 1994 until 1998 when he retired to return to teaching in UCLA's art department.  In 1991, Hopkins began painting again, and has had several exhibitions of his work.
