Biography from Linda Fairchild Contemporary Art:
Jeffrey Keith is a Denver-based artist and educator, known for his large-scale abstract paintings, drawings, and mixed-media sculpture.  A specialist in color theory, Keith creates deceptively complex images that resonate tonally with seasonal and geographical references.

The powerfully physical, almost sculptural presence of his canvases is achieved with multiple layering of pigment applied liberally with trowels and scrapers, resulting in works that are as much a record and roadmap of the exploratory process as they are a reflection of the hypothetical landscape at their source.

In his recent works on paper, Keith has developed a palette of non-art colors, working with construction materials such as tar and aluminum to draw a conceptual connection to the theme of man's incursion into the environment and his need to leave his mark. Just as his earlier charcoal drawings and mixed-media sculpture utilized found objects as vessels of meaning and cultural mirroring, these current abstract works manifest as both record and roadmap, talismans for the continuation of the artist's journey.
