This biography from the Archives of AskART:
James A.Parker Sr, signing as Jim Parker.

He has completed over 400 historic folk art paintings for villages, townships, counties, chambers of commerce, historical societies and centennial and bicentennial committees.  Parker concentrates on central New York State and the Adirondack Mountain area of New York State.  His painting originals are all watercolor done in an old English style of building each color.

Prior to painting in watercolor (starting in 1976), he was a New England scrimshaw artist and owned and operated two nautical and wildlife art stores in Boston's Fanieul Hall Marketplace. These were sold in 1981&1985.  In 1975-77 they handmade and the artist engraved 502 custom hunting knives under the name "Parker Custom Knives, Ilion, New York.

Parker does commission work with historic watercolor.  He is termed a "folk artist" since he is self taught.  He also teaches art at two local art centers.
