Biography from Parkway Galleries:
Ray Henry Wilson was born in Kansas City, Missouri on August 16, 1926. As a child he was stricken with double pneumonia and developed lung trouble.  As a result, he was not allowed to take part in sports or physical activity.  He soon became interested in art.  In Junior High School, he spent his spare time making very exacting sketches of Michelangelo's Greek statues.  He couldn't remember how he got started but said he found it completely relaxing and engrossing.

In 1948, he became a student at the Kansas City Art Institute, studying under Thomas Hart Benton.  During the summer he traveled all over Arizona painting the scenery.  His work was exhibited in a one-man show at the 261 Artists Gallery and he was told by DeGrazia, a noted Arizona artist, that he should devote his lifetime to painting. After graduating in 1951, he briefly lived in Denver, and then became a patrolman for the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department.  During this time, his works were exhibited at the Plaza Art Fair and at Little Frame Shop and Old World Gallery in Kansas City.

In 1961 Ray and his wife traded the city life for 64 acres of land near Windsor Missouri.  They had grown tired of the noise of the city and wanted to get out where they could have some peace and quiet.  Ray constructed a studio and continued to paint using the majestic country scenery as his muse.

Painting, Ray Henry Wilson said, is "50 percent suffering, 45 percent work, and 5 percent gratification. It is a means of expressing what one feels and sees."

He died April 13, 2005.
