For a great portion of his artistic life, K. K. Ivanov, a member of Russia's Artists Association and the Petrovskaya Academy of Arts and Sciences, has focused on imagery intricately associated with the architecture of the Russian Orthodox Church, a symbol of the deep-rooted Russian cultural heritage that was under siege by the Communist regime.

Born in 1938 into a distinguished noble and Christian family, Ivanov witnessed much of the sadness firsthand.  As an artist during these totalitarian times which stifled freedom of expression, he experienced a great deal of difficulty.  While he admittedly succumbed to overwhelming grief and pessimism, he continued to work, and as one writer mentioned, "his art ventilated what hope remained deep within him."

Beginning in 1964, Ivanov spent a lot of time in the countryside near his home in St. Petersburg, in the summer residence of a well-known landscape painter, V. K. Belynitsky-Biruli.  For over a decade, the main theme of his work was the beauty of the natural Russian landscape and its many gifts.

For him towards the end of a special phase of his life, fruit still-life painting, somehow radiating an otherworldly glow within a dark and somewhat forbidding landscape, was for him symbolic of hope, expression---an offering to anyone who would like to enjoy it.
