Biography from LewAllen Galleries:
Tyson Skross is a young Brooklyn-based artist with an avid interest in exploring wide-ranging ideas in a variety of media. With an artistic curiosity that is as evident in his work as the masterful handling of material and technique, Skross uses a panoply of texture, form, color and luminosity to engage imaginatively with inner realities of space and experience.

Born in 1978 in suburban Texas, he moved after the age of nine to Geneva, Switzerland. There he observed various unusual natural phenomena related to the area’s lakes and mountains that prompted him to question perceived realities and the rigidity of received truth. There he began an artistic engagement with the possibilities of the indefinite, notions that are evident in his work exploring the fluidity of forms. Skross says that his greatest hope is to spark the imagination of the viewer with visual impressions probing the convergence between the physical and psychological.

In his work, Skross evidences an avid interest in artistic experimentation conferring both a clear sense of originality and courage of artistic vision. He often involves the geometry and colors of New York to create deconstructions of architectural detail and form that dissolve rigid structure into less certain realms of the imagination.

Skross studied under the painter Janis Pozzi-Johnson in Geneva from 1993-97 and received a BFA in 2001 from Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD. In 2009 Skross was the recipient of an Efroymson Contemporary Arts Fellowship.

His work has been recognized internationally with exhibitions in Berlin, Leipzig, and Dubai, and by such notable institutions as The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art and the Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art, among others.
