 Nel Klaassen, wife of the painter Jaap Bouhuys, studied at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam during 1928-1932. She was taught by Jan Bronner, Gijsbert Jacobs van den Hof and Richard Roland Holst. In 1932 she was awarded the Prix de Rome.
