| Sarah Mayo was born in Maine in 1840. Sara was the wife of Silus I. Mayo. She opened a studio in Los Angeles in 1877 and was active there for the following decade as an exhibitor in county fairs and a teacher of drawing and painting. Her rare works include figures, landscapes, and portraits in oil and watercolor.
