| Zella G. Knox Woolm was born in Iowa on March 7, 1876. Zella moved to southern California with her family at an early age and settled in Eagle Rock. She began painting in the 1880s and remained self-taught. She married John Woolm in the 1890s and settled in Glendale where she soon became active in the local art scene. She died there on Feb. 21, 1973. The California coast was her favorite painting subject.
