| | Grace Mae Sherman was born in Santa Cruz, CA on Dec. 25, 1894. Sherman studied with Lillian Howard while a student at Santa Cruz High School. She taught art at Bay View School in Santa Cruz before marrying Leavitt McQuesten in 1922. A skilled watercolorist, she painted still lifes and landscapes; however, she appears to have stopped painting after her marriage. The couple lived for many years in the Oakland area before returning to Santa Cruz in the 1960s. Mrs. McQuesten died there on March 20, 1988. | Source:
