This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Nérée DeGrâce was a Canadian artist, a painter and an illustrator.  He was born in Shippagan, New-Brunswick.  He was one of Antoine DeGrâce's descendants.  He started drawing and painting in his childhood.  In 1948 he graduated from the School of Beaux-Arts in Quebec.  Sometime later, he created his own business in publicity and serigraphy, while still painting occasionally during his spare time.  He illustrated several books by Antonine Maillet while the Canadian Mail Service issued a stamp from his painting entitled Le Village de Shippagan.

We can say that his style, being all together naïve and surrealistic, was close to Chagall's.  He became a well known artist with the help of Edith Butler who managed to increase his popularity.

In 1987 the Art Gallery Michel-Ange in Montreal set up a unique exhibit.  All the paintings were from Nérée DeGrâce exclusively, while a book entitled Nérée DeGrâce was published by Broquet Editions, in the 'Signature' collection.  Later on, Nérée DeGrâce contributed to many other exhibits at the Michel-Ange Gallery, which were always of an extraordinary success.

Nérée DeGrâce passed away in Quebec in 2002.
