| Eloise Pickard Smith was born in Durham, North Carolina on August 6, 1921. After studying with Gregory Ivy at the Beaufort Summer Art Colony, Smith won a scholarship to the Art Students League in New York City. She then worked in Colorado and Massachusetts until 1953 when she moved to California.
Primarily a watercolorist, she also worked in casein and oil. Few of her paintings are extant since a fire destroyed much of her work. She died in Santa Cruz, CA on August 26, 1995. A gallery at University of California at Santa Cruz is named in her honor.
