Biography from Mark Gruber Gallery:
Marlene lives and works primarily in the Hudson Valley, although she also travels to other locations including Woodstock, New York.  Primarily a pastelist, her award-winning plein-air landscapes, figurative, and still life paintings have been exhibited throughout the United States.  She is on the faculty of the Highland Cultural Center, Dutchess Community College, and also teaches workshops in pastel.

During the past twenty five years, Marlene has become keenly aware of the loss of nature and the diminishing American landscape.  Much of her work reflects visits to protected lands, hallowed ground in the Hudson Valley.  Of this commitment, she said in 2007:  "During the past twenty five years of painting in the Hudson Valley, I have become keenly aware of the loss of nature and the diminishing American Landscape. However, as I have witnessed damaging changes over the years, I have also discovered hallowed grounds, those sacred areas respected and protected from population (over) growth and the resulting developmental ruin. I am incredibly grateful to the many organizations and very dedicated and insightful people involved in preserving our landscape, particularly in the Hudson Valley. -

She is an active member of many art organizations, including the Pastel Society of America, Woodstock Artist's Association, New York Society of Women Artists, and The Degas Pastel Society.
