The following information is from Lori Sandor, great niece of Charles Damrow. Sandor got the information from her mother.

He was born on 2/20/1916 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin
He died on 12/11/89 in Oneida, Wisconsin
He was the youngest of 15 children.
He was a self-taught artist and was known for his talent in elementary school.
Ran away out west at the age of 13.
He loved horses, buffalo, Indian culture and the wild west.
He was a Paratrooper in WWII
Spent most of his life in western states.

His largest painting is Crow Buffalo Hunters is 8' x 10;' Others are Cycle of Life a herd of Buffalo and the Hopi Home Dance depicting life on a reservation that he witnessed while living there and from memory.  His self portrait places him eye to eye with a buffalo.
Charles Damrow, Cowboy artist and painter of western Cowboy and Indian subject matter, established friendships with Indians, cowboy artists and Indian Traders of the Southwest.  He drifted between acclaim and obscurity and had associations and friendships with many notable westerners, including Olaf Wieghorst, Barry Goldwater, Peter McDonald and Bill McGee.

His paintings are held in private collections, municipal buildings, and corporate collections. Noteworthy are two large 6'x9' canvases collected by Arizona's largest art patron, Bank President Walter Bimson.

Damrow was born in 1916 of German decent, and was a cowboy his whole life.  His artist skills remained strong throughout his early career, culminating in a horse accident in 1968.  This event plus a decline in eyesight in his later years,  confined his best works to the earlier period, although he painted industriously until his passing in the early 1980s.
