Andrey Vadimovich Makarevich was born 11 December 1953, in Moscow,
Soviet Union. He is a Soviet and Russian rock musician, founder
of the Russia's oldest still active rock band Mashina Vremeni (Time
Machine).
Makarevich was born in Moscow to the parents of Belarusian and Jewish
origin. He graduated from Moscow Institute of Architecture as a
graphics artist.
As a youth, Andrey was a big fan of English rock band The Beatles. In
1969 Makarevich founded Mashina Vremeni, a rock band largely inspired
by western rock and blues of the time. He is the band's singer
and guitarist. While music of Mashina Vremeni is written by all
the members, Makarevich is the band's exclusive lyrics writer.
Makarevich also released 8 solo albums, participated in regular TV
shows and assisted other groups and artists. He authored several poetry
collections and two volumes of memoirs. Makarevich is also
interessted in painting. Andrey accompanied Mikhail Gorbachov on his
solo album in 2009.

Andrey Makarevich is a Soviet and Russian poet, composer, writer,
artist-graphic, producer and the leader of the legendary rock band
"Mashina Vremeni" (Time Machine).
In 1969, together with a few of his
classmates, Makarevich formed the rock band "Mashina Vremeni" (Time
Machine). After high school, Makarevich attended the Moscow University
of Architecture, but, in 1974, was expelled for his passion for rock
music. A few years later, Makarevich reentered the university program
and graduated with a diploma in graphic arts.
By Makarevich's own
admission, he is an artist first and a musician second. Makarevich has
had over thirty solo exhibitions in respected venues including the State
Tretiyakovskaya Gallery in Moscow, St. Petersburg, London, New York,
Riga and Italy. These works are part of Makarevich's exhibition "Fifty
Women of Andrei Makarevich" which took place at the Manezh Exhibition
Hall in Moscow in 2003.
Works from this artist are in the permanent
collection of the Museum of Russian Art, New Jersey and private
collections in Russia, England and the US. |
