Biography from Richard Beau Lieu & Associates Fine Art Appraisers:
Lisa Lewis was born in Yonkers New Year on December 16, 1959 to Jeffrey and Glenda Lewis.  She was a bright child, always quick to catch on to mathematical concepts and in her very early years expressed an interest in drawing and painting. As an athlete she was a strong swimmer, and at age 9 began to win medals in County swim championships.  Being athletic Ms. Lewis would compete in gymnastics and tennis; she often pushed herself beyond the average endurance levels.

At 17, she began to study drawing, mostly figurative and still life at the Hopper House in Nyack, N.Y.  This is the former home of world famous artist Edward Hopper.  During this time she would paint abstract oil paintings that were exhibited throughout the village of Nyack.  Susan Schall, who lives in Hasting New York, was a great supporter of Ms. Lewis during her early years of art training.  Ms Lewis refers to her with gratitude and as Susan Schall on the Hudson.

She attended Community College expressing interest in becoming an art therapist, but later switched her major to Radio/Film and Communications.  While attending San Diego State University she learned the basics of film making, experimented with photography, the adjusting of black and white prints and darkroom skills.

Ms. Lewis says that the only way to express the sentiments, dreams and visions that fill her is to express them visually, exposing and sharing them in a painting.  She arranges her compositions from a variety of themes using form, color, and texture applied to the canvas to complete the task of expressing those sentiments by giving meaning to the finished image.

In July of 1986, she moved with her parents to South Florida.  Working part time to complete courses at Florida Atlantic University she chose Fine Art as her major. --- Emphasis in Painting.  By taking 2 or 3 classes at a time, she was able to complete the requirement and received her Baccalaureate in Fine Arts.  Ms. Lewis also holds a Teaching Certificate in Art from Florida Atlantic University.

Artist Statement:
"The beauty of life is so intense that rather than trying to duplicate it, I paint from my imagination - what could be, or perhaps catching and releasing the essence of something interesting and /or beautiful.
