This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Father of  artist Leslie Cope (1913-2002), Sidney was born in England, trained at Royal Doulton, came to the United States in the early 1930s as he had accepted an offer to teach at Ohio State.  Upon arriving, the position was filled.  Sidney was then employed by Mosaic / A E Tile and later the Nelson McCoy Pottery company.  While working as a designer, sculptor and such at McCoy, he continued to paint.  He painted in oil as well as watercolors.
The Cope Gallery in Roseville, Ohio displays and sells the works of both men.  One of the most impressive works are the Stations of the Cross, large pottery embossed tiles or plaques which hang throughout the gallery.  These were made and used in a church in England but were later crated and shipped by steamer to the United States and have been in Roseville since their arrival.
