ARTIST:- Joseph Daniel Driscoll   (1920-    )

    1.    Subjects and styles : Joseph Driscoll's art style is “realistic” in his terms. As a long time student of George Bell (1939-1960), his style is very unique.  Russell Drysdale was a fellow student and friend of Joe's. Their styles are connected and can be seen as coming from the George Bell School. Joe's most famous work is Selling Up, now on permanent loan to the Sale Art Gallery.
   2.  Formal education and training:  He was a student in Art and design at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 1945.  He also attended George Bells private Art classes.
   3. Geographical areas:  He was active in Victoria, Australia, and is represented in Art Collections in Australia including the David Hamilton Collection.

  4. Art Movements: Joe has been influenced by are the impressionists and the realist movements.

  5. Relevant Personal Background:  He has a private studio and gallery in Seaford, Victoria.

   6. Art Organization Memberships: Joe Driscoll was president of the McClelland Art Gallery, and member of Victorian Artist Society.

   7. Special Awards Prizes are from the Artist Society of Victoria.

A portrait, land-seascape and genre painter, he was born in London, England in 1920 of Irish parents from Cork.  His family arrived in Australia in 1923.

Driscoll studied art at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology with Vic Greenhalgh, Allan Warren and George Bell.
