Zinovi Podushko (in polish ZENOBIUSZ  PODUSZKO)
29/10/1887 - 03/03/1963

Zenobiusz Poduszko was born in Ukraine in the village of Oczeretino in the area of the city Izium in Kharkiv province. In 1906, he passed the test for the Academy of Fine Arts in Kiev, where he graduated with honors in 1911. Since 1908, at the invitation of the Association of Kyiv artists he took part in exhibitions in Kiev, Kharkov and Odessa. In autumn 1911 he began studies at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg in the class of Professor Jan Ciaglinski, and then in the landscape workshop of Professor Nicholas Dubowski. He graduated from the academy in 1918. During this period, he was participating in exhibitions of so called "pieriedwiznikow".

In 1920, he came to Poland and in the following year settled in permanently. He was a co-founder of artistic group "Start" in the city of Lódz. He took part in numerous exhibitions throughout the country, particularly in Lódz, together with, among others, Konstanty Mackiewicz, Katarzyna Kobro-Strzeminska, Wladyslaw Strzeminski and Karol Hiller.

In 1930, his painting Wieczór. Miasteczko Kresowe was awarded a bronze medal at the Exhibition of the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts in Warsaw. His major solo exhibitions in Lódz and in the region in 1953, 1959 and 1961, were organized by the Association of Polish Artists and the Central Bureau of Art Exhibitions in the city of Lódz.

A posthumous exhibition in 1964 was awarded the Golden Cross of Merit in 1957 and the Award of WRN in Lódz for achievements in the field of dissemination of culture for the year 1962.

The artist's creative output consists of numerous landscapes painted in oil technique. Until 1939, they were mostly motives of Podolia and Volyn and after 1945 of Lódz and Silesia. Kept in the realistic convention, sometimes with a hint of impressionism, they are distinguished by lyrical mood, in a low coloring and freely laid patch of color, through which pierces excellent technique and painting workshop.
