This following biography was researched, compiled, and written by Geoffrey K. Fleming, Director, Southold Historical Society, Southold, NY.

JOHN GLEIXNER (April 7, 1905 - December 4, 1977)

Painter.  Born in Austria-Hungary.  He emigrated to the United States from Czechoslovakia in 1925.  Gleixner became a naturalized citizen while residing in Pennsylvania.  In 1930, he lived and worked in Reading, Pennsylvania as a painter for a textile works.  He is also known to have worked in the masonry industry.

At some point, Gleixner took up painting as a hobby, focusing on highly detailed watercolors and gouaches.  He tended to paint landscapes, but may have also painted other types of scenes.  

He married a Canadian woman named Frieda Leppert (October 5, 1913 - May 15, 1993) after 1930 and had at least one child.  The Gleixners moved to Woburn, Massachusetts, around 1970.  John Gleixner died there on Sunday, the 4th of December 1977 at the age of seventy-two.  His funeral was held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home.

His works are not known to be in any public collections, though a number reside in private hands.
