Gloria Redfield Riggs was born in Chanute, Kansas Oct. 25, 1928.  She graduated from Manhattan High School, Manhattan, Kansas in 1946, then attended Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri and graduated from Emporia State Teachers College with a degree in Art and Music.  Gloria taught elementary school in Barstow Unified School District for many years, finishing her 27 year teaching career as an art teacher at Barstow High School.
 
After retirement in 1981, Gloria moved to Hesperia with her husband, John Riggs and directed her time to her first love, watercolor painting.  She also enjoyed other media such as oil, pastel, acrylic and doing ceramic and bronze sculpture.  Since her move to California and the Southwest, she has studied with Barbara Rhymes, James Savoie, Don Wilcox and Robert E. Wood.  She was recognized many times for her art of the Southwest and was accepted in many juried exhibits.
 
Gloria Redfield Riggs passed away Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011 in Prescott, AZ
